Metaphysical Erosion

Shuffling down the street
you're some ways behind me,
off back there. I'm thinking
we used to crunch
the leaves beneath our feet.
With hand in hand,
yours in mind,
with a wedding band,
that held the crumbling
statue together.
But that's all since eroded
away to hopeless dust.
If only I could just
multiply negative to
the negative presence
between us. But that is
impossible.
I'd only create for
myself more distance
in the longing cold.
Sunless marble weighs
down my chest,
and I've no idea where
all the years went.
They were loud enough
and then -
silence.
All of a sudden
hate is a comfort
to being alone.
